Big thank you to all my friends and fellow artists who came to the opening of TaNTrum last night! But there is no rest for the wicked, so it’s back to work on my comic thingy.
Here’s a look at Rand with a updated design. He originally started life as a Mr.A parody (the name is pretty obvious). But I felt that was just rehashing what Moore did with Rorschach. I still liked the name and look though, so I revamped him as a urban hero who fights against the ‘movers and shakers’ who use their wealth to disenfranchises the weak.
His ‘A is A’ calling card is a reference to his Steve Ditko inspired origins.
Hey, some of you might remember me posting work in progress images for a ‘digital print project’, well here is the end product! A limited edition calender for 2014.
My friend Koulla and I will be launching the calender along side our exhibition ‘TaNTrum! Separate Ways, Worlds Apart’ at the Darwin Visual Art Association this Friday December 6th.
Remember in the last update when I said i wouldn’t post anymore WIP pics, I lied. Here is the rough pencils/breakdowns of the 1st half of Astounding Tales of Hero Fiction. I’ve also been planning the outline for issue 2 and beyond during my lunch breaks.
You’ve probably noticed that from page 5 onward the breakdowns are more ‘complete’. This is because I was still getting a feel for scenes and flow. More updates when they come.
Another rough pencil/thumbnail page of ATOHF. This will be the last work in progress page I put up for the moment, don’t want to spoil the story! I took a page from Paolo Riera and started taking reference photo’s of myself acting out the panels using a free ipad app (Timer Camera).
This has allowed for better poses and facial expressions, and hopefully faster page turn around time (work smarter, not harder).
My tumblr page might be on the quieter side of thinks while I finish issue 1 and research some web comic hosting sites. But I’ll keep posting my art when I can.
Back again! Here are some more extremely rough pencils/thumbnails for Astounding Tales of Hero Fiction! I have finished the script for issue 1, but I’m still tweaking dialogue. Hopefully I can at least have two issues to launch on the web after Christmas.
9 panel grids, for me personally, ad a really great sense of rhythm to comics. I will try and put some more finished art up sooner rather than later.
